With a bit of luck you'll have realised that on paper, saving money for travelling is not rocket science. You simply have to:

  •   Open a dedicated savings account so you have a measure of progress towards the budget you've calculated;
  •   Live within your means, i.e. spend less than you earn;
  •   Reduce your outgoings by adjusting your lifestyle;
  •   Increase your income by selling unwanted possessions and/or changing jobs.

In reality, however, it can be tough. Big changes in lifestyle (such as giving up smoking) are a real challenge. The important thing is to constantly remind yourself that sacrifices now will lead you quicker to your goal - your dream - travelling. Do whatever works for you; change your computer's desktop wallpaper to a location that you long to visit; stick postcards or pictures of travel locations around the house, for example on the fridge; just use your imagination! Do whatever it takes to remind you that it will all be worth it in the end... and I promise you, it will be!

Best of luck with your saving - please drop me a line to let me know how you are getting on, and don't forget to check out the Saving For Travel Blog for new money saving tips and travel budget-related information.

Happy travels!
Steve
