Finding additional sources of income will speed you on your way to your budget goal. Here are some tried-and-tested methods to earning more money.

Get a new job
Getting a better-paid job is an obvious way to bring more money in. However, if you want to travel sooner rather than later, you may find taking a second job a better option, as some consideration should be given to how you appear on paper; a short period in a job before disappearing off travelling may make you look less appealing to future employers.

Sell! Sell! Sell!
The last step should have convinced you that you should stop buying unnecessary luxury items such as clothes and CDs. You can take this ethos even further; sell any unwanted or unused items you own to raise money for your travels. The only barrier is your own ruthlessness! Got any university books gathering dust? Sell them on Amazon Marketplace. Any CDs you've consigned permanently to the shelf? Flog 'em. Is your mother nagging you to clear out the crap you have in their loft? Look up your old toys on eBay and sell them to collectors. You'll be surprised how much they go for! I sold off my old Star Wars toys, university books and my entire CD collection and made over £2000 in the process, which paid for a month in Japan and then some. Feel the need to de-junk, and fancy earning some money in the process? Then give it a shot...

Answer surveys online
It won't make you rich overnight - it's more of a 'slow-burner' - but it's an easy way to make some cash, and something I continued to do even whilst travelling. If you sign up with a company such as Lightspeed (USA), they will pay you cash for filling out surveys online. Definitely worth a shot if you have the odd ten minutes to spare. The surveys are sometimes interesting, too: I've even "reviewed" advance footage of big Hollywood movies in past surveys.

So just a few ideas there to get you started; you can find more in the ongoing Saving For Travel Blog. But before you get stuck into that, check out the final step for that last bit of inspiration.
